FREE PRESS ANNOUNCES THE PUBLICATION OF
THE 8th HABIT
THE LONG-AWAITED NEW BOOK BY #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR
STEPHEN R. COVEY
(New York, N.Y., June 29, 2004)—Martha K. Levin, Executive Vice
President and Publisher of Free Press announced today that on November
9, 2004 the Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc., will
publish THE 8th HABIT: From Effectiveness to Greatness,
Stephen R. Covey’s much anticipated follow-up to the long-time
bestseller, THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE. Free Press
V.P., Editorial Director, Dominick V. Anfuso acquired world rights
including audio and first serial from Jan Miller of Dupree, Miller, &
Associates. THE 8th HABIT will be a simultaneous worldwide
English language publication with Simon & Schuster UK, also available in
multiple formats from Simon & Schuster Audio. The publisher has
confirmed that the first printing for the U.S. edition is 350,000
copies.
Covey’s new book comes at a profoundly different time in history than
when THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE was originally
published. The challenges and complexity we face in our personal lives
and relationships, in our families, in our professions, and in our
organizations are of a different order of magnitude. We are struggling
to feel engaged, fulfilled, and passionate across all areas of our
lives. Tapping into the higher reaches of human genius and motivation—to
find what Stephen R. Covey calls our voice—requires a new mindset, a new
skill-set, a new tool-set…a new habit. THE 8th HABIT is the path to
finding that voice and one’s passion.
“I’ve not felt such passion, such conviction or excitement since my work
on THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE,” shares author
Stephen R. Covey. “I believe the reason the response to the new ideas in
THE 8th HABIT has been so strong is that people feel a void in their
lives. This same emptiness is felt in organizations across the world,
most of which struggle to achieve their top priorities. People don’t
feel their unique talents are tapped or appreciated. Bottom linethere
is a profound yearning in both people and organizations to find their
true “voice,” to matter, to make a difference, to find greatness.”
“We are delighted to be publishing our fourth major work by Dr. Covey,”
said Martha K. Levin. “He is without question one of the world’s most
brilliant and influential thinkers on understanding human nature. THE
8th HABIT will be a major publishing event.”
Also, announced today is an October 12, 2004 publication of the 15th
anniversary trade paperback edition of THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY
EFFECTIVE PEOPLE, which has sold an astounding 15 million copies in
over 37 languages in both hardcover and paperback, with over one million
copies each in Japan and Korea alone. It continues to appear on
bestseller lists since its original publication. Free Press has
confirmed a first printing of 250,000 copies for the 15th anniversary
edition.
